Employee Giving Campaign

Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Food for Thought Campaign?

The Food for Thought Campaign is our 2012 approach to University Advancement’s annual employee giving campaign. Our hope is to both welcome you as a new donor, and to thank all current donors, for giving back to NAU. The campaign provides a way for employees to invest in the university, thereby investing in our own futures, our students’ futures, and the future of the northern Arizona community.

Who gives through the Food for Thought Employee Giving Campaign?

Any Northern Arizona University employee can participate in The Food for Thought Campaign.

I already work here, why should I give?

As members of the Northern Arizona University community, we can all see first hand how expensive it has become to obtain a post-secondary education. Employee giving can never be enough to make up the shortfall, but employee participation in giving can go a long way to helping us be heard when we ask for corporate, foundation and legislative support. Annual participation is the key to our success. The number of alumni, employees and friends supporting us influences corporations and foundations that are considering major grants and gifts. Your annual gift is a vote of confidence in NAU and its mission. Your participation in this campaign will lead the way to our future success.

Can I specify where my contribution should go?

Absolutely! Your contribution can be designated to a variety of areas including scholarships, colleges, departments, programs or endowed chairs, just to name a few. Your gift directly benefits the area you choose. Simply note your preference on the gift form.

Can I designate my gift to more than one area?

Of course. Clearly note on the gift form how much you want to give to each area, and we’ll take it from there.

How much should I give?

Participation is the key to our success. What is important is that you choose to give, not necessarily the amount. When everyone gives a little bit, we all gain a lot, and we know not everyone can give a lot, but everyone can give something. And no matter how much you contribute, a recyclable grocery bag, a coupon for a yogurt parfait and a coupon for the NAU bookstore, are yours, it’s our way of saying, "Thanks."

Can I make an anonymous gift?

Yes. Simply note your preference on the online gift form.

Can I make a gift jointly with my spouse?

Yes again. Indicate on the gift form that your gift is made jointly. You could increase the value of your gift if your spouse works in a company that has a gift matching program.

What are my payment options?

You may give by check, by credit card, or by payroll deduction.

I have already made an annual gift this year. Will it count toward this campaign?

Yes, and thank you. You have a recyclable grocery bag, a coupon for a yogurt parfait, and a coupon for the NAU Bookstore waiting for you. See your area’s team leader, or call Sangeeta Vijayagopalan at 523-6730.

What if my spouse works for a matching gift company?

Contributions to us are matched by many matching gift companies. You may obtain the matching gift form from your spouse’s human resources department and forward the completed form to University Advancement, Box 4094, Flagstaff, AZ 86011 or call 928-523-2012.

Where do campaign funds go?

All dollars raised at the Northern Arizona University are designated according to the donor’s wishes. It’s your gift, your choice.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes.

Who do I contact if I have further questions?

Please call University Advancement at 523-2012, and your call will be directed appropriately, or email us at Advancement@nau.edu
